About Me

Hello! My name is Matthew Nikolic and I am a third year Mechatronic Systems Engineering student at Simon Fraser University. My first experience of "engineering" started when I was 12 years old playing with Lego and making my own cars and action figures; not paying attention to the instructions manual. In high school, I joined the VEX Robotics club. After two years of competing in VEX and going to the World Championship in 2022 and 2023, my teacher suggested I looked into Mechatronics at SFU and it was the perfect degree for me. Over the past three years at SFU, I've had a co-op at BC Hydro as a Generation CADD Drafter, expanded my skills through technical personal projects and extracurricular certifications, and developed my PM skills as the President of the MSESS.

Aside from the academics and professional development, I have several personal interests keeping me balanced and in a clear headspace. I enjoy working out and mountain biking, helping me stay fit physically while accomplishing small goals regularly at the gym. I find being in shape allows me to think better and work more efficiently. The discipline of exercising daily translates to other avenues of life, especially at work. Additionally, I enjoy travelling as it gives me a new perspective of what other places are like and how people live outside of the Lower Mainland of BC. During off-hours, I can be found playing video games (though not very much since I started university), and learning about new consumer technology.

Feel free to check out my projects and contact me if you'd like to know more about me or what I've worked on!
